By Kaylee Gorsegner

My name is Kaylee Gorsegner and I am very grateful to have the opportunity to intern at Triad Strategies for the summer. I am going into my third and final year at American University in Washington, D.C. My major is Political Science with a specialization in American Government, and I am minoring in Religious Studies. I believe that religion and politics are intertwined and therefore it is crucial to study them both. At AU, I am the president of the club gymnastics team and work as a desk assistant in the residence halls.

My interest in politics really started in high school. I grew up in York County and went to Central York High School, where during my junior year, I took an American politics class. My teacher, Ms. Walker, made the class incredibly engaging and I instantly fell in love with the political process. I knew as soon as I took that class that politics was something I was going to pursue. I also owe a lot of my love for politics to my dad. Since I was old enough to form my own political opinions, the dinner table has been a place of contentious debate and discussion. My dad has always pushed back against my beliefs and challenged the way I think. He has taught me many valuable lessons and helped make me into the person and aspiring woman in politics I am today.

Going to college in D.C., a lot of my experience with politics has been at the national level. I am excited to learn more about the process at the state level, especially in my home state. Triad’s work at the intersection of governmental relations and communications is very fascinating to me. I’m grateful that I have a front row seat to see how these work together.

When I am not at school or work, you can usually find me with a book in my hand. I am an avid reader, and I also enjoy watching hockey, hanging out with my two younger siblings, and exercising.

So far, this internship has provided me with the opportunity to see the inner workings of state government, especially the budget process. I have already gotten to experience so many riveting things and I am excited to see what the summer has to offer. Thank you, Triad, for allowing me to be a part of your team for the next few months!
