As I wrap up my internship at Triad, I’ve been reflecting on the incredible experiences and insights I’ve gained over the past two months. I came into this internship with a strong interest in learning how a firm like Triad fits into the state legislative process. To say I better understand this would be an understatement. From day one, I was immersed in the world of Pennsylvania politics, the state budget process, and government relations.

I joined the Triad team at an interesting time as PA tried (and is still trying) to pass a budget. I went to the Capitol almost every day and got to sit in on committee meetings, hearings, and watch session. I enjoyed getting a front row seat to the inner workings of state government. I soaked in so much just from being in the building where everything was happening. On top of that, I had the opportunity to track important legislation and report back to the team. Additionally, I completed various research projects about policies and bills that had the potential to affect clients. I appreciated the chance to dig deeper into legislation that interested me.

The lessons I’ve learned during my time at Triad have been invaluable. I have deepened my understanding of the public policy process and gained a clearer picture of the complexities involved in passing a state budget (or how it is supposed to). Along the way, I’ve refined my writing skills and become more confident in my ability to communicate clearly and efficiently. Perhaps most importantly, I’ve come to truly appreciate the importance of building strong relationships with everyone you encounter, including people on both sides of the aisle. Bipartisanship is hard to come by these days, but it is essential to effective governance. Triad embodies this commitment to collaboration every day.

As soon as I walked through the doors on my first day, the people at Triad welcomed me with open arms and I truly felt like a valued member of the team. The culture at Triad is rare, a place where collaboration is encouraged and every opinion is appreciated. I was especially lucky to have Emily Walker who went above and beyond every day to guide me in the right direction. I learned so much from her and I am appreciative of her mentorship.

My days at Triad have been incredibly insightful. I am grateful for this opportunity and everything I have experienced over the last two months. Thank you to the entire Triad team for allowing me to join you. I will cherish this adventure.
