Rick has parlayed his experience in the news media and as a corporate communications manager into a highly successful crisis management and strategic communications consulting practice, which includes national and international clients as well as those closer to home.

He was instrumental in helping the Hershey Trust Co. navigate the roiling currents that erupted when the Trust board explored the sale of its controlling interest in Hershey Foods (now the Hershey Co.) in 2002.  Despite intense public and political pressure, the Trust completed the process while keeping the company’s share price stable, in the end declining offers to sell the company.

He was part of the team that fended off the hostile takeover attempt of AMP Inc. (now Tyco Electronics).  He helped facilitate the growth of local telephone competition on behalf of AT&T and fought successfully for several electric utilities in defeating government takeover efforts.  Later, working on behalf of competitive energy suppliers, he and his clients collaborated with regulators and legislators to make Pennsylvania’s foray into competitive electricity markets a nationally recognized success.

Rick has directed community outreach efforts that eased the path for power plants and manufacturing facilities to be built, refurbished or return to operation.  He has been involved in several successful environmental remediation projects as well, beginning in his days as the chief communications officer with a Midwestern electric utility.

In addition to project work, Rick is in demand as a media coach and message trainer.  His clients have appeared on 60 Minutes, 20/20 and in a variety of other high-profile, high-pressure broadcast and print media venues.

He holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and an MBA. His community involvement includes serving as a board vice chair of the United Way of the Capital Region, where the chairs the Communications and Marketing Committee.
